Q
What should I do in case of an automobile accident?
AYou should stay calm and assess the situation. If there are injuries to you or another party, call 9-1-1 immediately. Do not move your vehicle from the accident scene – unless it is in the way of traffic and causing a dangerous situation. Obtain the name of the person driving the other vehicle, along with his or her phone number, driver’s license, vehicle license, and insurance information. Note the time, location, and date of the accident. Use your camera phone to take pictures of the scene, damage to both vehicles and, images of any witnesses. Also, try to get the witness’s name and phone number.
Q
What should I do if I can’t drive my car after an accident?
AWe recommend that you avoid driving your car after a significant accident until the full extent of the damage is known. Simply call Cockrell’s Body Shop and we will arrange towing services for your vehicle.
Q
Which details should I note after an accident?
ANo details are too small when it comes to assessing the condition of vehicles involved in an accident. In addition to exchanging the basic information for all involved parties (full name, contact information, insurance information, license numbers, etc.) you should also pay close attention to the damages on either vehicle. Were there previously existing marks or scratches before the accident? How big was the area of impact? The more information you gather, the better!
Q
Should I call the police?
AYes. Even in a minor accident, it’s always important to report the incident to the proper authorities. The responding office will complete an accident report, which is vital for insurance companies and medical personnel who might treat injured parties of the accident. Make sure all drivers obtain a police report of the incident.
Q
What insurance companies do you provide service for?
ACockrell’s Body Shop has excellent working relationships with all major insurance companies to get your vehicle back to its original condition. Simply provide the name of your insurance company or the name of the other driver’s to the Cockrell’s technician and let Cockrell’s handle the rest.

We also assist major insurance companies with their DRP (Direct Repair Programs). If you are insured with one of these companies, we handle everything from the estimate, photos, rental car set up, repairs to delivery.

Q
Must I obtain three estimates from separate insurance companies?
AContact your insurance carrier or the carrier of the driver responsible for the repair of your vehicle to find out the policies for vehicle repair. While some insurance companies do require three estimates, other companies do not. Of course, you should never select a repair facility based on the amount of its initial estimate alone.

You should base your decision on how thoroughly and professionally the personnel handle your situation and the reputation of the auto body repair shop. Always remember that the objective of repairing your vehicle after a collision is to restore it to pre-accident condition.

Q
I was told that I am required to take my car to a specific repair shop. Is this true?
AGenerally, it’s your car and you can choose which company will oversee the repairs for you. However, it is best to check with your insurance carrier or the carrier of the driver responsible for the repair of your vehicle to find out the specific requirements for the repair of your vehicle.
Q
Who is responsible to pay the repair shop for my repair bill – the insurance company or me?
AYou are responsible for the cost of repairs, but we have relationships with most insurers where we will accept the amount that they are willing to pay as full payment for the repair.
Q
Who is responsible for the safety, workmanship and guarantee of my repairs – the insurance company or the auto repair shop?
AThe repair shop is ultimately responsible. Many insurance companies stand behind our work with nationwide warranties through our direct repair relationships.
Q
Can the insurance company and auto repair shop make an adjustment and start repair on my vehicle without my consent?
ANo. It is your vehicle, and only you can authorize the repair. Remember, you are ultimately responsible for payment.
Q
How long will repairs take for my vehicle?
AOur technician will give you an estimate of the time it will take to complete the repairs to your vehicle. Estimation of time depends on extent of car damage. Be sure to check with the technician for the specifics on your vehicle.
